Therapeutic consultation is a collaborative service focused on supporting an individual’s communication needs within their everyday environments. Rather than providing direct therapy sessions, the speech-language pathologist works alongside the individual, family members, caregivers, and support staff.
Therapeutic consultation may include observing the individual in daily activities, identifying communication strengths and challenges, and developing practical strategies that can be used throughout the day. The consultant provides guidance, modeling, and training to caregivers and support professionals to help them consistently support communication goals.
Services may also involve reviewing progress, adjusting strategies as needed, supporting the use of assistive or alternative communication tools, and collaborating with the individual’s interdisciplinary team. The goal is to ensure communication supports are effective, person-centered, and integrated into the individual’s daily life.
